Psychodynamic & Couple/Family Therapist
Many of us struggle with feelings of anxiety, disconnection, self-doubt, and existential dread. These dispositions can impact our emotional, physical, and relational health, leaving us longing for a change but unsure of where we want to start or what we hope to achieve. We may even feel overwhelmed with the prospect of engaging in self-exploration, especially if we struggle with self-criticism. In my therapy practice, I strongly believe that our wounds and anxieties can serve an adaptive purpose, revealing reserves of inner strength and resilience. We will work together to unearth these reservoirs, overcoming challenges from a place of self-compassion instead of guilt or shame.
In my work with couples and adult family members, I remain curious about each person's family of origin, lived experiences, relationship history, and attachment patterns, but with an eye towards how these individual characteristics mutually impact the relational dynamic as a whole. Whether the goal is to improve communication with your partner, sibling, or parent; adjust to a life change or stressor; rebuild trust, especially after infidelity; explore co-habitation and/or marriage; or consider or process a separation, we will explore the narratives that you each have formed about yourself and the other and seek to re-tell the story from a more empathic perspective.
Although I ground my practice in the present, I also understand that culture and family, as well as past experiences and future expectations, inform and affect us on a variety of levels. In a collaborative and dynamic setting, we will explore the feelings, beliefs, and habits that help and hinder you. I approach every session with an open mind and ample curiosity, and I draw from a wide variety of effective therapeutic techniques, which I will adapt based on my perception of your specific needs as well as your direct feedback. I am here to offer my skills and expertise as you identify measures of progress and work toward your goals, which are unique to you.
